Exploring the lowland lakes and ponds of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness and Mt. Defiance near Snoqualmie Pass, May 21-23, 2026.
I feel lucky that it is early in the season and I've already been out on two backpacks so far! The unseasonably warm weather we had in May paired with low snowpack means that the mountains are melting out early, and I'm trying to make the most of it.
On this trip we hike to many lowland alpine lakes tucked in forested basins; Talapus and Olallie Lakes, Mason Lake, and some lovely ponds too along the way!
